ATTENTION:
Watchtower Library Mac Installer,
or WLMI,
is dead.

My program attempts to install Watchtower Library on the Mac. However, it is sometimes quite buggy, and does not always work right off the bat. Additionnally, it does not work with Snow Leopard.

Sadly, my time has become quite limited. Finding the time for debugging and coding my application has become very difficult. Due to all these reasons, I have stopped developpment of WLMI.

The latest version of WLMI is still available for download. You can still give it a go if you want. As I have said, though, you may encounter problems.

A great solution:
Watchtower Library for Mac

A superb way of getting Watchtower Library on the Mac, which involves no effort and is extremely quick, can be found here. It is called Watchtower Library for Mac. It is a free application made by Roy Ratcliffe, a brother in the United Kingdom. His program runs on Leopard and Snow Leopard. (It does not, however, run on Tiger.) It effectively automates the installation process, and is very user friendly.

Unless you have Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), MOST OF YOU WILL NOT WANT TO DOWNLOAD MY APPLICATION, BUT WILL INSTEAD WANT TO GET THIS ONE.

Thank you all...

Thank you to every one who supported and helped me with my application, and to all the brothers and sisters who expressed their heartfelt thanks for it. Just for that, this whole thing was well worth it. Thank you.

For those Tiger fans...

If you have Tiger, then my application is your only hope for getting Watchtower Library on your Mac ! (Without updating, that is !). So, if you have Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), then read on !

Happy Mac-ing !

Watchtower Library didn't work on the Mac... Until now

If you're not new to the Mac, and if you're a Jehovah's Witness, you have no doubt come to realize that Watchtower Library is a Windows-only program.

However, using this application, you will be able to seamlessly run Watchtower Library on Mac OS X, for free !

This will allow you to run Watchtower Library exactly as if you were on Windows.

Copying and pasting works between it and other Mac programs, such as Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, or TextEdit.

Printing also works directly from Watchtower Library. Just like Windows, except with no viruses and no problems !

A few requirements

Before we get to the good stuff, there are a few things you need to have.

First of all, you need a working Internet connection to install Watchtower Library on your Mac.

Second, you need Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or newer for this to work. This application was made and tested on OS X 10.5 (Leopard) using a Macbook. If you encounter any problems or difficulties, don't hesitate to contact me using the link on the bottom of this page.

Please note that you need an Intel Mac for Watchtower Library to work. A PowerPC (PPC) Mac will not work for this type of emulation, and it never will.

The long and boring solution

You can install Watchtower Library on your Mac manually, however this is a long and tiring process. Should you wish to do so anyway, the instructions to install Watchtower Library MANUALLY are here. Most of you will no doubt prefer to use the following appliction, however.

WLMI: The automated solution

I have created an application to automate the Watchtower Library installation process. It is currently in its beta phase. It is conveniently called Watchtower Library Mac Installer (WLMI).

WLMI Logo

To download WLMI 1.97, click here.

For now, WLMI is not compatible with Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6). We are working on this. Check back soon for the updated release.

Please note that you must have an active internet connection for the application to work.

The application takes care of all the dependencies, prompts you for your CD, launches the installation, and creates a nice shortcut to Watchtower Library on your desktop.

What's new in this version:

  • Leopard and Tiger bug fixes

To use WLMI, simply download it. It comes in a zip file. Unzip it anywhere, and double-click the Watchtower Library Mac Installer application.

Give it a go ! Feedback can be posted here.

Help !!!

Isn't it great when you take precious minutes of your time to try something new, and then that thing doesn't work out like you thought it did ? Makes you want to scream, doesn't it ? Not to worry. Check the common problems page. If your problem is not there, there's the comments page. Type in your worries and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Or maybe you just want to say thank you ! That is also what the comments page is for. I really appreciate the "thank you"s I get.

Acknowledgements

Thanks to a brother from my congregation who wanted to remain anonymous, for his tips and suggestions, as well as for debugging my tutorial and application. He is the one who first told me there was a way to install Watchtower Library on Mac OS X, and he also told me about Ryan Walker (read on...).

Thanks to Ryan Walker for his great guide (which can no longer be found on the Internet !) on installing Watchtower Library 2007 with Darwine.

Also, thanks to Igor Tarasov, a wine developer, for his practical tips on making my tutorial simpler, back in the day.

Thanks to Roy Ratcliffe, for his tips and tricks with Asian fonts and wine colors.

Also, thanks to Chris James Martin for his page containing the zip file with the necessary packages to install X11 on Tiger.

Thanks to Mike Kronenberg for his answers to my frequent questions :) .

A big thanks to Franco Roselli for translating WLMI in Italian.

And finally, thanks to Jesse Andrews, for his guide on installing X11 on Tiger, as well as for his handy screenshots.

Disclaimer

Using WLMI should cause no problems whatsoever. However, you should always make a full backup of your hard drive before making system changes or installing applications. And I'm sorry, but I have to scare you with this disclaimer:

By downloading and running WLMI, you accept the responsibility for any damage you may cause to your computer.

If your downloading and running WLMI results in you somehow breaking your Mac or software on it, I am not in any way responsible for the damage caused.

That being said, it isn't really possible to mess up anything with this program. Just be warned.

Have a great day !
